Q & A with Simply Accounting about how we work to help you
1. Q. How do you go about identifying what is wrong with my QuickBooks file, and how much might I expect to prepare for that initial investigation?
A. Depending on the problem of the QuickBooks file will change our approach. If it is a technical error, for example a corrupt sector is going to be different than trying to organize poorly set up books. Our technical expertise will allow us to recover any recoverable data. To ensure the QuickBooks file is set up correctly, we would analyze account balances and where they are allocated. We would also look at recent history and activity to ensure transactions are being correctly entered. For the initial review, we would require documentation that would give us correct account balances (ex. Correct accounts receivable balances and bank statements). This will help us analyze where the problems exist.
2. Q. How are you able to demonstrate to a small business owner who is not an accounting professional, that the work you do has been executed correctly? How will I get the comfort about your competence without knowing accounting and without knowing QuickBooks.
A. You will be able to see how our work is put into action by the ease we implement in the system. When used correctly, we will be able to provide instant reports to get real time snapshots of your company financials. This will be verified when all account balances agree with your other records and reporting tax items become a breeze. If you lack the accounting background, our work will shine for you during tax time. When your tax items can be easily identified, it saves you time and money and will be correct. That will give you the comfort that our work is correct.
3) Q. How do you distinguish yourself from other ProAdvisors on the site?
A. We are different than other ProAdvisors because our firm offers a variety of accounting services outside of QuickBooks. This shows we have an expertise in accounting which will help you in ways that others can’t provide. With over 20 years in the accounting field, we have been exposed to a lot of situations and we are confident our accounting background gives us unique insight into proper bookkeeping. Also, many ProAdvisors only focus on helping you install the software but we will help you work within the software and the many tools it offers you.
4) Q. What are your rates? How do you bill for your services and what repayment terms are available to your clients? Do you accept credit cards?
A. Our rates vary from project to project as the scope of the work is different for everyone. We have a couple different options for billing. We offer straight hourly rates for training or system analysis, we offer training classes and monthly seminars, and sell blocks of hours for training/support services. Each option is particular to different projects and we recommend a course of action after we understand the scope of the work. We accept all major credit cards.
5) Q. What do you require of clients to engage your services?
A. The biggest thing we require from new clients is the desire for them to want to have their books done correctly and time efficiently. This is what we as professional accountants strive to achieve and we want this desire in our clients. Our basic start up procedures include collecting relevant work documents, setting up engagement goals, and analyzing the current system.
6) Q. How would you access your rate for services performed in relation to others providing similar services?
A. We find our rates to be less than companies that provide similar services. This gives us an advantage right from the start but when clients see our marriage of accounting and proper bookkeeping, they are amazed of the services we provide for the price. We go above and beyond the call of the engagement to make that client happy, and this sets us apart from others who provide similar services. Our rates are modest to accommodate our clients budgets. We want all to become profitable in a long term relationship.
